RAY McCOLLUM of Lake Villa

Raymond L. McCollum, 80, of Lake Villa, IL passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Advocate Condell Medical Center  in Libertyville, IL.

He was born in Decatur, IL on February 13, 1931, the son of the late Bertha and Ray E. McCollum.  Ray lived in Chicago and briefly in Fox Lake before moving to Lake Villa in 1965. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  Ray retired after 44 years of service from Ameritech/IBT. He was a former member of the Fox Lake Fire Department and was  a 20 year member of the Lake Villa Fire Department. An avid outdoorsman, Ray enjoyed traveling the country to hunt and fish. He was a passionate Chicago Bears football fan, watching all  the games at his son Glenn’s home.  An enthusiastic White Sox and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, Ray was also  ‘closet Cubs’ fan, when the team was winning.  Ray really enjoyed watching his son, Brett, play baseball.

He is survived by his sons, Glenn ( Lee) McCollum of Lake Villa, and Brett (Sarah)  McCollum of Lake Villa; his grandson, Evan Lee McCollum; his stepchildren, Bob Weber, Jr. of Lake Villa and Stephanie Weber of Round Lake; his step grandchildren, Austin Weber, Alivia Lyon and Landon Lyon; his sister, Bernice (late Louis) Henson and brothers, James McCollum and Charles (Gloria) McCollum; his former wife and special friend, Virginia Heffernan. His devoted pet dog, Copper, will also miss him.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 4 – 8 pm and Friday morning, 9 am until the time of service at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rte. 83 (Milwaukee Ave. ) Lake Villa, IL 60046.  Funeral services will be Friday at 10 am at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
