Joan Marie Heroux Redden

Joan Marie Heroux Redden, 89, of Lindenhurst, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022. Mrs. Redden was born July 6, 1932 in East Orange, New Jersey to the late Leo Hector and Roberta Whiting Heroux. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William “Bill” Redden. Joan spent her childhood in New Jersey and Massachusetts. Later, she completed secretarial school and worked for Bell Labs where she met her husband, Bill Redden, whom she married in 1954. Joan and Bill moved to North Carolina where they raised their four daughters. After retirement, she and her husband began a craft business and toured the country in their infamous RV. Joan loved traveling to various destinations around the world, particularly Mexico. Joan also enjoyed crewing for hot air balloon events, volunteering for Victory Junction in NC and attending the yearly hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, NM; she was a self-proclaimed “Balloonatic.” In 2013, Joan moved to Lindenhurst, Illinois so she could enjoy the snow that always made her smile. In Illinois, Joan continued her long history of volunteering by being on the welcoming committee for new residents. When the dining hall was short staffed, she happily volunteered to assist as needed and thoroughly enjoyed rolling silverware into napkins. Joan will be remembered as a lover of life. Her positivity and generosity were unrivaled. She made strangers feel welcome and gave comfort to those in need. She went out of her way to make others happy, even if it meant driving in the rain with her convertible top down to make her grandchildren smile. Her compassion for others extended to animals as well; she enjoyed feeding raccoons on her deck and taking in feral cats. However, when it came to card games, like Spite & Malice or Spades, all bets were off. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Jacquelyn Willett of Severn, MD; Cynthia and Denny Vierheller of Nashville, NC; Gail and Steve Jones of Wadsworth, IL; and Lauren and Mike Arlaud of Virginia Beach, VA. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Kristen Hansen, Charles Willett, Jared Vierheller, Amanda Vierheller, Brigette Arlaud, and John Jones and three great grandchildren Isabelle Hansen, Wesley Vierheller, and Jesse Vierheller. A funeral mass will be held in the chapel at Victory Lakes on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10 AM. A small reception will be held at the the Pub after service. Joan will be interred with her husband, Bill, and mother-in-law, Dessi Mae LeMonds Redden, at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, she requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Christmas Fund at Victory Lakes.
