August 1, 1929 - December 22, 2014
“Not a mean bone in her body…” We have all used this expression to describe a particularly kind or gentle person and there is no more fitting phrase to describe the life and soul of Dee Bender. After several years of declining health Dee ascended to Heaven on December 22, 2014. Dee was born August 1, 1929, the daughter of George and Catherine Theis of Bensenville, Illinois. One of seven children, her siblings include: George, Gene, Eddie, Lorraine, Jerry, and Shaun. In 1950 Dee married Bud Bender and together they also raised a family of seven children: Scott (Cindy), Linda (Jim), Gary (Carol), Tim, Susan (Greg), Nancy (Bob), and Dave (Gwynne). They started and built Bud’s Auto Body, the family business, in Des Plaines, IL until Bud’s untimely passing in 1975. Dee was the greatest Mom and never said “no” to having another pet in the house. She loved her little “perfect dogs”. Her green thumb was well known and it defied logic how she could just plunk plants in the ground and they would grow; maybe it’s because she had more sunshine than shade. Later in life Dee moved to the family’s beloved Lake Namakagon in Cable, Wisconsin. There she spent many happy years enjoying the North Woods until moving back to Illinois to be closer to her family. She is remembered fondly by her ten grandchildren: Sally, Jilly, Andy, Michael, Amy, Sarah, Tom, Jeff, Alex, and Emily and by seven great–grandchildren: Braydon, Ava, Ashton, Nora, Taylor, Alyssa, and Colton. If the success of a person’s life can be gauged by the love, loyalty and devotion of her family and friends then Dee Bender was all along, and at the end, a very wealthy person. A memorial service and gathering will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Visitation at the church will begin at 12 noon with mass following at 1 PM. Prince of Peace Catholic Church 135 South Milwaukee Avenue Lake Villa, IL 60046 847-356-7915 Memorial donations can be made to Divine Word Missionaries.
