Judith Maurine Green, cherished wife to Martin Green for 50 wonderful years, extraordinary mother to Kristopher Green, Katherine Denis, Andrew Green, Sarah Vescovo and Matthew Green, went to be with the Lord on July 27. She was the adoring grandmother to Grace and Lillian Green, Isaiah and Kaylee Denis, Sophia and Lucas Green, Isabella, Jonah and Evangeline Vescovo, Bryce, Blake, Benjamin and Bristol Green, as well as the sister to seven loving siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Maurine Connor. Judy Green will be deeply grieved and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Judy was born and raised in Danville, Illinois. Active in her church, St. Patrick’s, Judy played the guitar and organ at mass and participated in Up With People. Marty came to church one day and saw Judy playing her guitar. He, of course, joined the band and the rest was history. Judy married Marty on April 7th, 1972. Together, they had five children. Judy devoted herself to caring for her family, endless hours of homework, reading, playing and cheering at sporting events. If you did not get a chance to see (or hear) Judy at a game, you were missing out. She was the loudest cheerleader there ever was. If you sat next to her, you would see her intensity and quite literally feel her jolting with excitement. She was the best, most loving mom, and her deep and abiding commitment to her husband and to her kids never wavered. While serving her family and her church, Judy worked tirelessly to complete her college degree. She graduated from Carthage College with a Bachelors of Arts and went on to receive her masters degree from Saint Xavier University. Judy was a phenomenal teacher at Washington Elementary and Abbott Middle School for many years in the Waukegan Public Schools. She shared her passion for learning with her students and eventually was promoted to several leadership roles. She held the titles of Director of Title I, Director of School Improvement and Technology and Associate Superintendent for School Leadership. During her time as Director of Title I, she served on the state committee and was well known and respected statewide in her role. She was also awarded with the honor of a Patriotic Employer by the Department of Defense because of her commitment to hiring veterans to teach in the district. Judy’s transformative impact on her students, her colleagues and the community is immeasurable. Judy and Marty were parishioners of Prince of Peace Church for nearly 48 years. Throughout this time, Judy served often as a eucharistic minister, taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and volunteered for almost every church project. Judy loved traveling to national parks to see God’s beautiful creation. She especially enjoyed being in the mountains or surrounded by water, seeing wildlife, hiking hand in hand with her best friend, Marty. She may have loved the creatures so much that she got uncomfortably close to a moose or bison from time to time. God granted Judy a unique gift for hospitality. She planned a theme for every gathering: games, snacks and decor. She loved creating memorable opportunities to celebrate, laugh and enjoy life. She cared deeply about others, and lovingly tended to their needs before her own. Judy treasured time with her kids and grandkids and the legacy she leaves her family is one of being present in every moment with deep love. Time with each other over the holidays will be some of her family’s most cherished memories. Judy loved the holidays, especially Christmas. She loved singing carols, wrapping presents, watching A Wonderful Life, baking her most delicious Christmas cookies and baking her famous homemade bread. Above all else, Judy loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was a faithful daughter of Christ. Judy knew that her true treasures were waiting for her in the kingdom of heaven. She prayed fervently for her family, her loved ones and those hurting or in pain. She trusted in God’s will for herself and family. She lived everyday for the Lord. We are confident she is dancing in heaven and enjoying everlasting love with her Father. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 9:00 am until time of memorial mass at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Church 135 S. Milwaukee Ave. Lake Villa, IL.
