    Susan Sykes

    April 17, 1948 - April 16, 2018

Susan Claudia Siwula Sykes, age 69 died peacefully on April 16th, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 17th, 1948 at the Great Lakes Naval Base Hospital to Harry and Alice (Spellman) Allen. Susan attended schools locally, graduating from North Chicago High School in 1966. Susan went on to College of Lake County where she took real estate and business classes. Susan was a longtime resident of Lindenhurst where she raised three daughters; Laura, Andrea, and A.J. Susan’s career spanned from owning a card store in Antioch, managing the Popcorn Factory in Lake Forest, working security at the Navy Base in Great Lakes, and tending bar at Arlington Racetrack Trackside (OTB) in Waukegan. Susan was a loving and devoted mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become “Grandma Sue” to her 6 grandchildren. Susan loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Her door was always open to anyone who wanted to join her. Especially when it came to going Up North. “The more, the merrier “ was her mantra. Susan also enjoyed playing cards, watching movies, cross word puzzles, gambling in Las Vegas and horseback riding. Susan was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Alice, and her dear brother Bill. Susan leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her; devoted husband Lee, father of her children, Larry Siwula, loving Sister LoAl (Don Cielenski), Brother Ron, her 3 lovely daughters, Laura (Brendan) Hannigan, Andrea (Tim) Shales, A.J. (Pat) Cote, her beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Aidan, Riley, Frances, Travis, Trevor, her many nieces and nephews, and treasured friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Journey Care Foundation hospice and palliative care center for their loving support during this difficult time. Visitation with viewing will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S Milwaukee Ave, Lake Villa, IL 60046. Prayers at the funeral home will begin at 9:30 am on Friday, April 20, 2018 with procession to Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 135 S Milwaukee Ave, Lake Villa, IL 60046 to follow. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Cremation will take place privately after the mass.
