Susan K. Earl

Susan K Earl, 66, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died March 21, 2023, at home with her husband and daughter holding her hands. She was born May 18, 1956, in Kansas City, MO., the daughter of Roscoe Earl and Anita Strand. Sue fought a hard battle against Stage 4 Lung Cancer over the last 2.5 years when given barely a year, to begin with. She never was afraid to show her stubbornness, and never afraid to speak her mind. There is a good possibility that she thoroughly enjoyed keeping her husband on his toes. As Sue was blessed with way more time than the oncologist predicted, she was able to celebrate Christmases, New Year's, birthdays, and anniversaries. She absolutely loved Bob Chinn’s and had accumulated a nice collection of Mai Tai cups with her husband. Sue got to enjoy some weekend adventures to Buffalo Wild Wings, Texas Roadhouse, and shopping. When visiting during the day, her lunch of choice was 2 Whopper Jrs, mozzarella sticks, and don’t forget the xtra xtra xtra ice in her diet coke. She had a long-standing ritual with her husband of Stone Creek’s BBQ Chicken thin crust pizza, crispy, which ended up being her last meal. Sue was formerly an Account Executive with Near North Insurance Agency as well as an active member of the Northbrook Jaycees in her younger years. She grew up in Glenview, IL, and loved hanging out at the Glenview House and attending the Glenview Street Sale with her two daughters back in the 80’s. For the last 25 years, Sue and her husband would spend the same two weeks in Puerto Vallarta where they gained strong friendships and made so many amazing memories. Her annual July pool party was always a time she enjoyed reconnecting with friends to catch up on life and reminisce about the past. She had a knack for killing plants and putting things in places that she’d forget. Never would you find a piece of paper that didn’t have some sort of note, infomercial info, or HSN product info on it. Sue was the middle of five kids and was very active. As a child and teen, she was a gymnast and a very talented tap and ballet dancer. Sue excelled as a student and was a member of the National Honor Society. Susan is survived by and was blessed to find true love in her husband of 32 years, Keith Wappel. Keith happened to see her out with friends and said, “That’s the woman I’m going to marry,” and he did on Nov 10, 1990, just several months after dating. Sue is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Carter, stepson Keith (Angelina) Wappel Jr, grandsons Andrew Galas, Declan Wappel, Jacob Kressin, Matthew & Anthony Sacco, and granddaughter Asia Krekling. In 2021, Sue had the joy of meeting her first great-grandchild, Scarlett Sacco. She is also survived by her oldest brother, David Earl, younger brother Phil ( Kerry) Earl, and little sister Carol (Jim) Cayer, as well as aunt to Carly (Dan) McGillivray, Patrick (Jazmyn) Earl, Kaylee Schnieders, Daniella Michael, Ryan (Jessica) Michael, Connor Cayer, and great aunt to Bruce, Everest, and Alexia. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and step-parents Roscoe (Joann) Earl and Anita (Alan) Strand, her older brother Rocky Earl, and her oldest daughter Kristin Miller. If you look up in the sky between November to March, the Taurus Constellation will be most visible. In 2021 after we knew all the details of her cancer, a star was named for her through the International Star Registry. The exact coordinates of her star named “Susan Kay Earl,” is located at Taurus RA 5h 10m 34.36s D 23° 20’ 27.25” A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10:00 am, officiated by Associate Pastor JC Crawford at The Point Church 900 Lewis Ave, Winthrop Harbor, IL. The luncheon reception will be at 11:15 am at Stone Creek Grill 206 Sheridan Rd. Winthrop Harbor, IL.
